  • Continue development of and implementation of an individual giving strategy

  • Grow the number of Indiana FFA advocates

The Indiana FFA experienced an exciting yet challenging 2009. We are proud to say our mission of making a positive difference in the lives of young people by developing their potential for premier leadership, personal growth, and career success through agricultural education is alive and well. Although we continue to adapt with the appearance and delivery of some programs, the core values and beliefs of the organization are still the same. Below are a few highlights of the 2009 Indiana FFA year.

2009-10 Goals and Progress

In the 2009-10 fiscal year the Indiana FFA Foundation raised $646,973.05.

Leadership Conferences:

Indiana FFA hosted 7 leadership conferences with over 2,000 members attending from across the state. Although each conference has specific objectives and goals to share with members, the overall mission of each is the identical. These conferences are designed to help young people develop critical leadership and teamwork skills.

Proficiency Award Areas:

These award areas are designed to reward students for excellent Supervised Agriculture Experience (SAE) programs. SAE's involve students working somewhere in the field of agriculture to gain knowledge and experience. The proficiency awards reward students who excel in specific areas. In 2009, we had over 400 applications submitted on the state level, which produced 2 national finalists. The National Finalists were Jacob Harden, Clinton Central FFA and Kelsey Hancock, South Newton FFA.

Chapter Awards:

Indiana FFA excelled at the 2009 National FFA Convention with two finalists for the Models Of Innovation awards. The National Finalists were: Clinton Central FFA (Michgantown, IN) and Shenandoah FFA (Middletown, IN). Each year only 30 national finalists are selected and 3 national winners are selected out of the nearly 8,000 FFA chapters across the country.

National Convention Highlights:

Indiana FFA was proud to have an American Star finalist, Kyle Stockwell from the Prairie Heights FFA Chapter as well as a National Agri-Entrepreneur winner, Kenny Schilling of the Mt. Vernon FFA Chapter. In addition to boasting 86 Indiana FFA members honored with receiving their American FFA Degree.

Community Service Initiative:

Indiana FFA kicked off its second year of a new community service initiative to encourage and promote FFA members to engage in local service projects. Although, community service has always been a pillar of FFA, there was a desire to take it to the next level. Through a partnership with Monsanto, Indiana FFA was able to launch the “Monsanto / Indiana FFA Community Service Initiative”. This new program was designed to provide funding for local chapters to plan and implement projects.
